Wake Forest University has a long tradition of faculty-student engagement. Many faculty mentor undergraduates in their scholarly work, both during the academic year and during the summer months.

To provide undergraduate students an opportunity to engage in mentored or independent scholarship without the distraction of ongoing coursework, URECA has several fellowships and scholarships available during the summer. These programs are available for Wake Forest undergraduate students with a GPA of 3.0 or above, and all focus on providing students the opportunity to do research or creative scholarship during the summer months when the focus can be exclusively on scholarship.

Summer Programs

If you are interested in working closely with a Wake Forest University professor on a project during the summer months, you might consider a Wake Forest Research Fellowship, or Wake Forest Arts & Humanities Research Fellowship.

If you are interested in developing your own “life-changing” experience that involves conducting scholarly mentored research in another country, you might consider applying for the Richter Scholarship Program.

Starr Student Travel Fund

In addition, funding for travel to conferences with a faculty mentor can be requested at any time through the STARR travel fund. This fund is intended to support students who will be presenting their scholarship with their mentor at a regional, national, or international conference in their discipline of study.

Summer Research Fellowship Workshop

All interested students are encouraged to attend our Summer Research Fellowship Workshop on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at 5 p.m. in the ZSR Library Auditorium (Room 404). After a brief discussion on general strategies for seeking grant and fellowship funding, Associate Dean Rebecca Alexander and Vice Provost Kline Harrison will lead workgroups discussing the purpose of the Wake Forest Research Fellowship, the Wake Forest Arts & Humanities Fellowship, and the Richter Scholarship.  They will also provide helpful information on writing a successful proposal, and take student questions.
